Domestic Partnerships
When a California domestic partnership ends, the parties are required to file a termination of domestic partnership.
Same-sex couples registered as a domestic partnership who have children together are afforded the same rights and responsibilities given to a traditional/heterosexual families under California law. For this reason, dissolving a domestic partnership requires an agreement or court order that covers all elements traditionally associated with divorce:
- Division of assets and debts
- Child support and spousal support
- Custody and visitation
- Property division
- Stepparent adoption
