Domestic Partnerships

When a California domestic partnership ends, the parties are required to file a termination of domestic partnership.

Same-sex couples registered as a domestic partnership who have children together are afforded the same rights and responsibilities given to a traditional/heterosexual families under California law. For this reason, dissolving a domestic partnership requires an agreement or court order that covers all elements traditionally associated with divorce:

  • Division of assets and debts
  • Child support and spousal support
  • Custody and visitation
  • Property division
  • Stepparent adoption

Our lawyers offer experience, guidance and representation in dissolution of domestic partnerships, ensuring that you maintain your relationship with your child and receive the property and financial support to which you are entitled.

Patterson Law Firm also recommends that you revisit your will, medical power of attorney, life insurance policies and any trusts so that they reflect your current goals for you and your children.
